Sending packages international with US postal service?

Ok, it looks like the best prices for me to send stuff from NJ to Peru come from the US postal service. Great. And they have boxes, price based on box size.

My question is, can I go and get the box from the USPS first, or do I have to go to the post office with all my goods and pack it with the clerk?

This may sound like a silly question to some, but I never did this before and would prefer to just show up as the post office with the selected box (remember the pricing by provided box size) all ready to go.

Any one know about this?

Yes, the Priority boxes are free for the taking. Take whatever you need home, pack your items, address the box and take it to the window at the post office and they will help you do the rest. You can also get a customs slip to fill out at home so you don't have to do that at the window.

First get your box and then wrap it up in brown paper sealing all of the outside edges.

Put the address in the centre of the box and the return address in the top left corner and take it to the post office. The clerk will weigh and measure it and tell you how much it will cost by land or by air. The clerk has nothing to do with the packing.

Tip: It's always better to put the contents of the package in a zip lock bag before wrapping it up. It will help to protect it from dampness on it's journey.
